Terms of service

Last updated: 27 October 2026

1. Who we are

1.1 Fond Portraits is a trading name of Ali Hyder, 11 Hoadly Road, London SW16 1AE, fondportraits@gmail.com.

1.2 These terms apply to orders placed with us by consumers in the UK. Please read them before you order.

2. What you're buying

2.1 A watercolour-style portrait of your dog or cat, made from a photo you upload, printed on a 20 × 25 cm canvas and posted to you, or, if you choose the digital file option, a digital file of the artwork emailed to you. We create the artwork using artificial intelligence (AI) image tools. It is made with AI, not by hand. The artwork is a stylised picture of your pet on a plain background, not a copy of your photo: the brushwork, colours and fine detail are the AI's interpretation.

2.2 If you add your pet's name, we add it to the design ourselves in a standard typeface. The name is optional, up to 12 characters, and we print it exactly as you type it, so please check the spelling before you order. We may refuse a name that is offensive or uses someone else's brand.

2.3 Each canvas is made from one photo of one dog or cat. If you order 2 or 3 canvases, upload one photo for each. Photos must not show any people.

2.4 Your canvas is printed by our print partner Gelato (UK production).

3. Prices and payment

3.1 Prices are in pounds sterling and include any VAT that applies. The price you pay is the price shown at checkout. You pay in full when you order.

3.2 If we've made an obvious pricing mistake, we'll contact you before we start your order, and you can choose to go ahead at the correct price or cancel for a full refund.

4. When the contract starts

4.1 Our contract starts when we email your order confirmation.

4.2 If we can't use your photo, we'll ask you for another one, or cancel your order and refund you in full (section 6).

5. Your photo and your permission

5.1 When you upload a photo, you confirm that you took it, or that you have permission from the person who took it to have it made into a portrait.

5.2 You keep all rights in your photo. You give Fond Portraits, and the service providers who help us make your order, permission to store, copy, edit and adapt your photo only to make, print, deliver and support your order, including any reprint. This permission ends when we delete your photo (see our Privacy policy). We won't use your photo in our marketing, we won't sell it, and we don't use it to train AI.

6. Photos we can't use

6.1 We may refuse a photo if it shows any person; appears to be a professional, studio or watermarked photo used without the photographer's permission; contains logos, brands, characters or famous people; shows more than one animal; isn't clear enough for us to show your pet faithfully; or is offensive, sexual, violent or unlawful.

6.2 We won't create any artwork from a photo we refuse. We'll email you to ask for a different photo. If we don't receive a usable photo within 7 days, or you'd rather not send one, we'll cancel your order and refund you in full to your original payment method.

7. How we check your portrait

7.1 Before printing, every artwork is checked against a written checklist: the same number of animals as your photo; recognisably your pet; eye colour, coat colour and main markings as in your photo; no extra or missing ears or legs; no stray letters or marks; and no part of your pet cut off. If we can't make artwork that passes, we'll tell you and refund you in full.

8. Cancelling

8.1 Because your portrait is personalised, you can't cancel it or return it just because you've changed your mind once our contract has started (Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, regulation 28(1)(b)). This doesn't affect your rights in sections 9 and 10.

9. If something is wrong

9.1 We are under a legal duty to supply goods that match their description and are of satisfactory quality. If your canvas arrives damaged or faulty, or doesn't match its description, for example because it fails one of the points in section 7, tell us within 30 days of delivery with a photo of the canvas. You can choose a free reprint or a full refund, and you don't need to send it back unless we ask.

9.2 After 30 days you still have rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. The stylised watercolour look, and small colour differences between your screen and the printed canvas, are not faults.

10. Mistakes

10.1 If we made a mistake, for example we used the wrong photo or misspelt a name you typed correctly, we'll reprint it free or refund you in full, as you prefer. If the mistake was in what you gave us, for example a spelling you typed or the wrong photo, we can reprint it once at our cost price, £13.86.

11. Who owns what

11.1 The canvas is yours. Because the artwork is made with AI tools, any copyright in it may be limited. Any rights in the artwork stay with us, but we won't sell it, reuse it or show it anywhere without your separate permission. You may share photos of your canvas freely. A digital file of the artwork is included only if you buy the digital file option; you may then print and share it for your own personal, non-commercial use.

12. Delivery

12.1 Your portrait usually arrives 5 to 7 working days after you order: up to 1 working day for us to make and check the artwork, then 4 to 5 days for our print partner to print and deliver it. Orders placed at the weekend or on a bank holiday start on the next working day.

12.2 We deliver to the areas listed in our Shipping policy. If you order to an area we can't deliver to, we'll cancel the order and refund you in full.

12.3 Unless we agree otherwise with you, we'll deliver within 30 days of your order. We don't promise delivery by a particular date unless we say so in writing before you order. If we do, and we miss it, you may end the contract and get a full refund.

13. Our responsibility to you

13.1 We are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care and skill. We are not responsible for loss or damage that isn't foreseeable. We don't exclude or limit our liability where it would be unlawful to do so, including for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud.

13.2 We only supply our products for domestic and private use.

14. Complaints and disputes

14.1 If you have a complaint, email fondportraits@gmail.com. We aim to reply within 1 working day and to resolve it within 14 days.

14.2 These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. You can bring legal proceedings in the courts of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland, you can bring legal proceedings in either the Scottish or the English courts. If you live in Northern Ireland, you can bring legal proceedings in either the Northern Irish or the English courts.
